Mumbai, June 20 -- The Royal Rajasthan Gala 2010 hosted by Maharaja Gaj Singh II of Marwar-Jodphur and Maharani Hemlata Rajaye raised funds and awareness for the Indian Head Injury Foundation.
Kabir Bedi compered in a traditional Tarun Tahiliani Rajasthani sherwani; keeping with the authentic regional theme of the night.
He was accompanied by his better half, Parveen Dusanj, and seated on the head table with fellow Brits, Arun Nayer and Elizabeth Hurley, who was wearing a head-turning trailed turquoise Roberto Cavalli gown.
The couple had specially flown in from Los Angeles for the do. Adi Godrej, accompanied by his daughter Tanya Dubash, successfully won his silent auction bid for the Hermes Birkin Bag.
Entertainment was traditional with a classic Western operatic twist. The reception was interspersed with a series of devotional performances by the Rajasthan International Folk Festival. A mini bazaar sold goods from Rajasthan like footwear and saris. A show-stopping performance by Passionata - a trio from London, wowed guests.
Guests included Smita and Deepak Parekh, Ajay Piramal, Ajit Gulabchand, Niranjan Hiranindani, Vijay Kalantri, Vivek Nair, Mahendra Sanhghi, Rashmi Uday Singh, and Shobhaa and Dilip De with daughter Avantika. Dr Rajendra Prasad, executive director of The Indian Head Injury Foundation, announced a workshop at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital.
The sit-down dinner that followed included Afghani Murgh, Rose Champagne sorbet, Gosht Biryani and an array of desserts.
