Mumbai, May 21 -- Until recently, we had only heard of Akshay Kumar travelling on bikes to get from one place to another when in a hurry. Now, a close competitor is his famous co-star, Katrina Kaif. Earlier this week, the actress reportedly boarded a rickshaw to get to a location on time, when her driver failed to reach her.
Though this was the rumour that did the rounds, Kaif clears the air around what happened. "I didn't get into a rickshaw. I took a cab, and no, it wasn't a cool cab. My driver didn't reach on time and I had a flight scheduled to go to some remote place. So, if I missed that flight, they would have had to cancel the conference. I could have either taken a cab for the airport or missed the flight," she explains.
No security
Sans security and air conditioning, Kaif boarded the vehicle without fear, until she remembered how bad she was with giving directions. The driver tried to communicate with her in Hindi, a language that Kaif's learning for her upcoming movie, Prakash Jha's Rajneeti, and she claims she managed to keep the situation under control.
"I didn't want him to figure out that I didn't know where I was going, in case he'd drive me around in circles. So I tried to be very nonchalant about it. I have no sense of direction. I can't tell whether I'm in town or in Bandra. It all looks the same to me," she says.
Not only did she catch the flight, but she also got a glimpse of travelling like an ordinary person in the city. "I was pretty fine when I got into the taxi, which was not a cool cab. But when I came out, I saw my hands were black, and I freaked out a bit," she says, before wondering out loud why celebrities should walk around the city with security in the first place.
"What is really going to happen? Is the driver going to kidnap you? I don't get why you have to walk around Mumbai with security. I don't feel unsafe being out in the city. I'm not afraid of people," says Kaif. Crowd out of control She recalls the only time when she was genuinely scared, and needed security more than ever.
"It was in Kolkata, about four years ago. I had gone for some function, and it was just mayhem after that. Some 5,000 to 6,000 people just descended in a circle, there were about 20 police officers, who couldn't control the crowd." she recollects, adding "They had to call the army and fire shots in the air. That was really bad. I left that place crying."
