New Delhi, Aug. 13 -- Diamonds are a girl's best friend. Well, mostly. Sometimes, they are only cause speculation about one's relationship status.

Ask our Bollywood babes. Recently, Priyanka Chopra, who was spotted sporting a huge rock on her ring finger at several public outings, had to clarify, "It is a birthday gift from my parents.

I am wearing it in my right hand to avoid any speculation. It's a 7-carat solitaire - my parents have set a high standard for the guy who will propose to me in future."

Before Priyanka, it was Bipasha Basu's turn to clear the air about the diamond ring she had been flaunting. "John (Abraham) is my diamond supplier," said Bips, who was quick to clarify, "It's certainly not an engagement ring." While Bips may brag about John as her "diamond supplier", Sushmita Sen has other plans. "This ring is to remind me and all of you that I don't need a man in my life to have diamonds. I can own them myself," said Sush.

Kareena Kapoor was also seen flaunting a diamond ring while promoting 3 Idiots. But, it's not clear whether the rock is a gift from beau Saif Ali Khan. Although Bebo clarified, "No, it's not a gift. I bought it myself," reports have suggested that Saif gifted it to her, on advise of an astrologer, who recommended the rock for stability and happiness.

Meanwhile, married actresses such as Shilpa Shetty and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan flaunt their diamond rings at every outing. While Ash's engagement ring is said to have cost more than R 50 lakh, Shilpa's reportedly costs R 3 crore - as expensive as a posh apartment in Mumbai.
