New Delhi, June 15 -- Karate Kid, the latest Jaden Smith, Jackie Chan starrer has turned out a winner. The coming-of-age flick debuted at No. 1 for the weekend with a whopping $56 million in the US.
And filmmaker Harald Zwart says he shot a part of the film like Danny Boyle's Oscar-winning flick Slumdog Millionaire.
"Oh yeah, Slumdog... has been a huge inspiration to me! I wanted the chase sequences in the movie to be shot like those of Slumdog... It's tough when you have a crew of 500, but I think we pulled it off," he says.
In his next outing, Zwart wants to make a movie in India. "I would love to shoot in India, even if it's only for a commercial. I'm really amazed by the country and want to see it for sure." Zwart's last film, Pink Panther 2, starred Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in a prominent role. He admits he did enough research on the country before approaching the actress. "I saw some Indian movies. I had done my research. But, all the movies had difficult names."
Zwart's love for India doesn't end there. "Well, Aishwarya's husband... I forget his name... Abhishek? Yeah, he's a terrific guy, I think. I'd love to direct him some day."
Talking about the success of Karate Kid, he says it was the cast that initially got him excited about the film. "Yeah, absolutely. I was dying to do it once I heard of it. The fact that Jackie (Chan) and Jaden (Smith) were attached to it kind of sealed the deal. Jackie wasn't confirmed, but I'm glad he came on board, because no one could have done the role better."
