I’m my son's superhero: Akshay
akshaykumar.jpg

By Hindustan Times

Akshay Kumar has lent his voice to the character Optimus Prime in the Hindi dubbed version of Transformers: Dark Of The Moon. The actor, currently in London with son Aarav and wife Twinkle, had to undergo an audition of sorts for the job in the sci-fi project.

“I wanted to do it for my nine-year-old, school-going son who introduced me to movies like Transformers, Superman and Spiderman. The producers heard a sample of my voice, and once they were convinced that I could do a good job of making Optimus Prime speak in Hindi with the same kind of emotions and expressions, they assigned the job to me. Now, I’m Aarav’s superhero,” beams Akshay, who has previously lent his voice to an elephant in the animated movie, Jumbo (2008).

The actor believes his son now has something to go to school and brag about to his little buddies. “It’s common with kids. They all think that whatever their papas do is exclusive to them; no one else in the world can do that. So, now I know that Aarav will brag about this assignment of mine when he meets his friends next,” laughs daddy Akshay, adding that he had to work extra hours to get his voice modulation right. “It’s not easy to emulate a character by voice. When we dub for our movies, we re-enact our portions from the film. This is a different game.”

Akshay is currently anchoring Khatron Ke Khiladi Torchaar on Colors, and has films Desi Boyz , Joker and Househttp://www.hindustantimes.com/images/HTEditImages/Images/akshay-twinkle.jpgfull 2 in hand. Transformers 3, he admits, is a one-off assignment. “Dubbing is not a side business for me. I accepted this because I wanted to see my son happy,” he says. “I don’t want to do dub for every other Hollywood movie. If something excites Aarav again, we’ll see.”
