Confessions of a ‘mamma’s boy Ranbir

Ranbir Kapoor has no qualms admitting that he is a mama’s boy. Time and again, reports of his indelible bond with his mother, Neetu Singh, have proved the same as well.

“I speak to my mother three to four times a day. I don’t do anything in the day without letting my mom know.

She’s always calling me, asking if I have eaten well and if I’m okay,” says Ranbir, who plays a very a different role in a telecom ad he is advertising for.

The actor is seen as a chauvinistic stand-up comedian in the commercial. As part of it, he is seen making statements like, “We men are simple, we open the door for you, you know what we want; we take you out in a fancy car, you know what we want. But what I don’t understand is what you women want from us?”

And to add to that chauvinistic image on TV, came rumours stating that the actor wasn’t considered for a different ad altogether because of his ‘playboy’ image. The ‘family’ audience that the brand was looking to influence apparently did not agree with his multiple alleged link-ups with his co-stars like Sonam Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif and now Nargis Fakhri, who is his co-star in Imtiaz Ali’s upcoming film Rockstar.

This news too, according to him, is baseless. “I hope people connect with it and have a good laugh,” he says. “And I hope they don’t take anything personally and take it all in good humour.”

Having enjoyed his stint as a comedian, he says, “Stand-up comedy isn’t easy. It’s not about getting on stage and making loud gestures; that’s easy. But stand up comedy has an art to it.”
